Anxiety is not simply a bad feeling; it is an alarm system that stays switched on. Many of the clients who come to this practice have lived for years with panic attacks, unexplained stomach pain and circling thoughts. The goal of treatment is not to remove the worry, but to teach the brain that there is no danger present.
What we do together has three parts: first we find the root of the worry, then we build practical skills, and finally we move together, gradually, towards the situations you have been avoiding. This method — cognitive behavioural therapy — has been tested in many studies and is the basis of our work.

Questions people ask

Common questions

Anxiety is a sustained state of worry and tension; a panic attack is a sudden, intense fear with a pounding heart, breathlessness and a sense of impending doom. The two often appear together and the route through treatment is largely the same.

Decisions about medication belong to your doctor, not to me. If you are on medication, do not stop it without telling your doctor; psychological treatment alongside medication usually gives the more durable result.
