After a traumatic event the body changes: sleep arrives and the heart is suddenly racing; somewhere harmless feels dangerous. These reactions are not disorders — they are a defensive system still in a state of alarm.
Trauma treatment builds **safety** first and only then goes near the memory. EMDR processes the memories without your having to retell them repeatedly, and rebuilding trust in relationships happens gradually, at your pace.

The route
How it goes
1
Safety and stabilisation
Before any processing, the nervous system has to settle. Without this step nothing else works.
2
Staged processing
Working on the memories deliberately, at a pace you can tolerate.
3
Rebuilding meaning
Finding a place for what happened in the story of your life, without denying its pain.
4
Return to life
Rebuilding the relationships and activities the trauma took from you.
Questions people ask
Common questions
No. That is exactly why EMDR exists — it works without repeated, painful retelling. Some people share fragments along the way and some share none; both are legitimate routes.
Trauma usually takes longer than anxiety or depression because it has more layers. The assessment gives a realistic range, and we review it every few weeks.
That is part of the process and it is accounted for. The method is built so that you can say 'enough' at any moment and the session is adjusted there and then.
