A child usually cannot say what is wrong; instead the body and the behaviour speak. Returning bedwetting, sudden anger at school, difficulty separating from parents and repeated stomach aches can all be signs of something the child cannot put into words.
Work with a child is always three-sided: the child, the parent and the therapist. The assessment is held separately — because children do not talk with you in the room — and afterwards we agree the shape of the sessions together.

Questions people ask

Common questions

From about six, using a play-based method. Below that age the work centres on the parents, because a child that young cannot yet separate or put things into words.

Because children do not talk with their parents present, and the more direct the question, the shorter the answer. Without you in the room you get information you would never hear in a joint session.

A large part of the progress happens at home. Each session sets one short, specific exercise for the week, which we review the next time.
