Ordinary tiredness is fixed by one good night's sleep and a short break, and you return to normal. Burnout does not work that way: you rest at the weekend and by Monday you are back at the same place.

Burnout is not tiredness

Tiredness is occasional and rest clears it. Chronic burnout is enduring, and underneath it there is usually a rigid belief: my worth is tied to what I produce. As long as I work, I am worth something.
That belief is what makes time off useless — because resting means not working, and not working means being worthless. The result is a cycle that reproduces the burnout on its own.

Three things that genuinely help

Always returning

If every break brings you back to the same level, it is burnout.

Slow decline

A gradual drop in output you do not notice happening.

Temporary fixes

More leave that lasts only a few weeks.

What you can try tomorrow

Write down an end-of-work time this week and take it seriously. After that hour, close the work — not reply to messages, actually close it. Try three days in a row and see what changes.

In short

Burnout is not cured by leave, because its root is not the volume of work — it is the belief that you must keep proving you are enough in order to be liked.
